Sugar Creek Covered Bridge, this covered bridge crosses Sugar Creek about three-quarters of a mile west of I-55 and three miles south of the Lake Springfield Bridge in Sangamon County.  It was built around 1880 by Thomas Black and has a 60ft. clear span.

Adams Wildlife Sanctuary, 2315 Clear Lake Ave., an oasis located in the center of town, the sanctuary is open for hiking or strolling the one mile nature trail.  (217) 544-5781

Adventure Village, located just inside the main gate of Illinois State Fairgrounds, it is the only park of its kind between Chicago and St. Louis.  Playground and picnic tables nearby.  Open May through September.  (217) 528-9207

Dana-Thomas House State Historic Site, 301 East Lawrence, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the house was built in 1902.  It is the most perfectly preserved example by early Wright architecture, art glass and furniture in the country.  (217) 782-6776

Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War Museum, 503 South Walnut, a complete set of the “War of the Rebellion: Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies”, medals, photos, currency, drums, uniforms of the Civil War.  (217) 544-0616

Edwards Place, 700 North Fourth Street, built in 1833, this mansion was the center of Springfield’s social and political life.  It now provides visitors with an interesting tour and a gallery filled with contemporary art.  (217) 523-2631

The Executive Mansion, 410 E. Jackson Streets, the third oldest continuously occupied governor’s mansion in the nation.  The 16 rooms open to the public include the state dining room, a magnificent library and the Lincoln bedroom.  (217) 782-6450

Lawrence Memorial Library, 101 East Laurel Street, this working library, located in the Lawrence Education Center, was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for Susan Lawrence Dana.  The library was restored in 1992 and contains information about Frank Lloyd Wright.  (217) 525-3039

Lincoln Depot, 10th and Monroe, Abraham Lincoln boarded the train to Washington D.C. before his inauguration as president.  The Depot now has exhibits and a multimedia presentation.  Open April through August 10-4.  (217) 544-8695 or 788-1356

Lincoln Family Pew, First Presbyterian Church, 321 South Seventh Street, the pew Abraham Lincoln and his family occupied.  Seven Tiffany windows illuminate the sanctuary.  Open June through September.  (217) 528-4311

Lincoln-Herndon Law Offices State Historical Site, 6th and Adams, this building built in 1840, is the only surviving structure in which Abraham Lincoln maintained a law office.  (217) 785-7289

Lincoln Home National Historic Site, 8th & Jackson, the only home Abraham Lincoln ever owned.  It is now the center of a restored four block area, which includes a visitors center.  (217) 492-4241, ext. 221
