Logan

Atlanta

Atlanta Library & Museum, Race Street, The octagon-shaped bldg. is one of the few in Illinois & is on the National Register of Historic Places.  It features classic details of the 1840’s with solid oak woodwork.  A Seth Thomas clock tower is on the library lawn; it must be hand cranked every 8 days.  (217) 648-2112

Hawes Country Grain Elevator, Built early 1900, this skyscraper of the Illinois Prairie stands erect and relatively unchanged on it’s original site, just a stones throw from the Atlanta Museum.

Chestnut

Geological Center, a letter from the Illinois State Geological Survey, signed by the Chief of National Resources and the Chief of Environmental Geology and GeoChemistry notified the city of Chestnut that they are the center of the state.  A monument stands in the village park and common in honor of this distinction.

Elkhart

Elkhart Hill, once owned by John Dean Gillett known as the Cattle King of Illinois, historic cemeteries, a family owned chapel, for tours by reservation call Elkhart Historical Society or Miss Jessie’s Art Gallery.  (217) 947-2323 or 947-2238

Lincoln

Heritage In-Flight Museum, Logan County Airport, 1351 Airport Rd., the museum is filled with memorabilia from all the military conflicts dating back to World War I.  (217) 732-3333

Lincoln College Museum, 300 Keokuk Street, the repository of a large collection of manuscripts, artifacts and other memorabilia relating to the life of Abraham Lincoln.  The college also houses the Museum of Presidents, to honor the Chief Executives from Washington to the present day.  (217) 732-3155, Ext. 294

Logan County Courthouse, erected in 1905, the courthouse is located on the square, which is a historic district.  It houses county offices and records, a statue of Lincoln, murals plus historical display cases.  (217) 732-8687

Postville Courthouse State Historic Side, 914 Fifth Street, a reproduction of the first Logan County Courthouse in use from 1840 to 1847.  Abraham Lincoln served as a lawyer on the Eighth Judicial Circuit.  (217) 732-8930

Mount Pulaski

Mount Pulaski, Mount Pulaski Courthouse State Historic Site City Square, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, it served as the county courthouse from 1847 to 1853.  One of two remaining courthouses on the Eighth Judicial Circuit traveled by Abraham Lincoln.  (217) 792-3919

Mount Pulaski Township Historical Society            Museum, Historical museum with displays pertaining to    Mt. Pulaski Township.  Open Tuesday through Saturday, 12-4pm.  (217) 792-3719
