            Lincoln Park, across from the Vandalis Statehouse State Historic Site, houses a seated statue of Abraham Lincoln as he would have appeared at the beginning of his political career.  (618) 283-1161

            Little Brick House, 621 W. St. Clair St.  Listed on the National Register and houses memorabilia of James Hall, one of the first leading literary figures in Illinois, and James Berry the first artist in Illinois.  Open by appointment.  (618) 283-4866

            Ramsey Lake State Park, 1 mi. NW of Ramsey, IL on US Hwy 51-picnicing, camping, fishing, 14 miles of horse & hiking trails available.  Nearly 2000 acres of forest and 45 acre lake for fishing.  Hunting, bow check in station for deer.  (618) 423-2215

            Vandalia Statehouse State Historic Site, 315 West Gallatin Street.  Vandalia was the state’s second capital, the seat of government from 1819 to 1839.  (618) 283-1161  Founded in 1819 by the state of Illinois to become the capital of the new state, Vandalia stands proud of its history.  Abraham Lincoln began his political career as a state representative at the State Capitol in Vandalia in 1834.

            Cumberland Road

          The National Road Scenic Byway begins in Cumberland, Maryland traversing 6 states.  It created a conduit for pioneers seeking a new life in a pristine world.  Today, the traveler can drive the 160 plus miles of the National Road, which closely follows Rt 40 as it crosses Illinois.  Visit the many historic sites from Marshall to the Eads Bridge.
