Cass

Jim Edgar/Panther Creek State Fish & Wildlife Area, 16,500 acres of scenic nature will give you a reason, in any season, to visit again and again.  9 rental cabins set on the main lake with lake views and picnic shelters.  Fishing lakes large and small, camping areas, plus 40 miles of hiking and equestrian trails encourage visitors to experience nature “up close and personal.”  The neighboring communities of Ashland, Beardstown, Chandlerville, and Virginia offer services to park visitors, including gas stations, convenience stores, grocery stores, delicatessen, restaurants, and several antique shops.  For information call (217) 452-7741.

Ashland

Known as the Gateway to Jim Edgar/Panther Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area, Ashland is located at the junctions of Routes 123 & 125.  Once a boomtown, it is now a business and residential community providing banking, retail businesses, social, educational, and cultural services.  (217) 476-3371 or (217) 476-3325

Beardstown

Beardstown Chamber of Commerse, 121 S. State Street, Beardstown, IL 62618 (217) 323-3271

Beardstown Courthouse Museum, on the square, this is the only courtroom still in use where Lincoln practiced law.  (217) 323-3271

Beardstown River Museum, 121 South State Street, features artifacts relating to the Illinois River.  (217) 323-3271

Black Museum, 101 West Third Street, City Hall, the Rudie Black Museum features a gun collection representing every period of American history, also on display is a collection of Native American arrowheads and tools.  (217) 323-3271

Chandlerville

Lincoln walked its streets, so it is rich in history and Lincoln lore.  It is on the north border of the Jim Edgar/Panther Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area.  There are elevators high enough to view spectacular Sangamon River Valley scenery and sunsets you won’t forget.

Virginia

Located at the junction of Routes 125 & 78, the Cass County Seat began as a crossroads settlement on the northern edge of a grand prairie.  It was laid out by New Englanders from the State of Virginia whereby it got its name.  The New England heritage is evident in the boulevards and homes of the city.  Virginia also lies just southwest of Jim Edgar/Panther Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area.  (217) 452-3226
